Most Rewarding Compliment

I told my kids how I’m part of a month long writing challenge. Explaining to them that for 31 days I’m going to write about a piece of my day, each day. I was asked questions of why are you doing this? This sounds like homework, is this for school? Do you have to do it? Are you going to write about us? As I answered each of their questions, they both had an understanding of what was going on. I even showed them some of the Classroom Challenge posts. I thought maybe they might want to join me, but I haven’t convinced them of that just yet.

I asked Taylor to read over my slice I wrote yesterday. I wanted her opinion of how it sounded and also what she thinks of it. I had read it over many, many times, but still valued her opinion. I was also a bit hopeful this might motivate her to write just for fun as well.  As Taylor read it, she smiled. As she continued reading then she laughed. When she finished reading  she turned to me, looked me in the eyes with an enormous smile and said, “Mom, you’re an author.” At that moment I smiled an enormous smile back at her and said, “That means so much to me, you made all this even more rewarding and worth every minute!” Thank you Taylor! Love that kid!!

Oh that’s wonderful to hear from her! SO sweet. I love that she called you an author instead of writer. Great slice!

That is incredible. Congratulations. I asked my daughter the other day to read my post – and she responded to my writing enthusiastically as well. There is nothing quite as powerful.

  8. Your daughter’s comment about you being an author is great. You are the author of your life! Woo-hoo!

As for the kids in your class, maybe they’ll be inspired to do a classroom-based challenge in May. You could always do it in notebooks (which is how I did the very first one with my kids).
